DaHui Grows IP Group with Lateral Partner Joining of Reking Chen

DaHui is pleased to announce that Reking Chen has joined the Firm as a partner in our intellectual property and commercial transactions practice groups. He brings to DaHui broad and deep experience in the full spectrum of IP matters, contentious and non-contentious, as well as in franchising and commercial contract matters. As DaHui established a dedicated IP group several years ago and has successfully taken on more and larger IP work since then, Reking is a most welcome addition, all the more so as his primary industry focuses – particularly TMT, healthcare and hospitality – fit right in with those of the Firm.

Reking is regularly recognized among top IP practitioners in China, including as a “Next Generation Partner” by The Legal 500, a “Rising Star” and then “Notable Practitioner” by Managing IP, and a “Bronze” individual by the World Trademark Review. His career already spans almost 15 years, after legal studies in China and the U.S. – and Reking is qualified to the PRC and California bars. He previously worked in five other law firms, including DLA Piper, Jones Day and Hogan Lovells; he regularly contributes to publications such as Chambers and Partners, Getting the Deal Through and Intellectual Property Magazine; and he takes on a large number and variety of pro bono matters, including for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNICEF, the Nature Conservancy, Smart Air and the Royal Institute of British Architects, and serves on two committees of the International Trademark Association.

Reking’s practice covers IP and technology licensing and transfers, IP registration, protection, disputes and compliance, franchising transactions and disputes, and other technology-related commercial transactions. He also has a growing data privacy practice. Reking has represented myriad international software and other technology companies, some of the biggest brands in the hospitality, entertainment and food and beverage industries, and numerous insurance and financial businesses.

In addition to Reking, DaHui welcomed another six new partners in 2022: Lucy Lu (M&A and PE), Zhengwei Yang (DR, employment and compliance), Greg Guo (capital markets), Jiawen Gong (capital markets and M&A), Richard Qiang (M&A) and Yi Dai (DR and shipping). In other words, DaHui grew by almost 100 years of combined top-quality legal practice in 2022.
